sTUFF i have built in the past

AND THEN WONDER WHY

And stuff I want to build in the future

And wonder why

'Now why the heck did I start building this....'

Picture

I do have a bad habit of agreeing to all sorts of endeavors.

For instance, I somehow ended up spending months building a couple of train layouts for people. Wow, that is time consuming and back killing!
I can't do a mediocre job, its not in my DNA.  The train layout shown here was a Marklin system with all German buildings and accessories.
I built the main station and then decided that of course, the station's platform  announcements should actually work.

So, I ended up recording English to German text conversion software, speaking the required train arriving or departing information.
Stuck the resulting speech through an echo module and played it out of the station canopy.  Sometimes, I don't help myself (although it was cool).

The customer just stood there and said 'What did it say?'

But perhaps that is why I like tinkering and constantly designing.
I can't say I am great at it either. I can spend an epic amount of time on a project that actually has no use whatsoever.

But when you finish a project, or you achieve some particular goal.  Its a good feeling.  A sense of 'I did that'.
People come and see my workshop and just wonder around it in fascination.  I am not sure why.

There is nothing special in there. Just a huge collection of stuff that I have put together over the years.  90% of the ice cream tubs sit there never disturbed.  I forget what is in them.

But its my space. I can lose myself in a world of creation, and it keeps my brain ticking over.

I never thought of myself as much good at maths, but over the years I have realised that all this home programming has actually lifted my mathmatics to a reasonably decent level.

I sometimes think I should simply stop and clear out all the junk.
But then I just don't know what I would do with my time.
There is not a day that goes by, where I don't get my pencil and jot down a solution to a problem, an idea or sketch out another project.

Maybe one day, I will actually find a use or make a career out of this hobby!
